Workers say they will retire when they are 66.1 years. One in four said they would like to work until they are 72 years. In reality people 63.1 years when they withdraw from the labor market.
On average, people want to work four years longer now than ten years ago, shows the annual senior barometer.
- There is a very good figure and a very high average. The challenge is that people retiring much earlier than they want. Much would actually have been achieved if we had worked so long as we say we will do, says Director Kari Østerud in Centre for Senior Policy (SSP) said.

"Norwegian Senior Policy Barometer 2016" conducted by Ipsos on behalf of SSP to examine attitudes to senior political issues in the workplace.

- In general, the numbers stable. We have for some time been this positive development where people want to work longer, but it seems to stagnate a little, says Østerud.
The responses from workers over 60 years shows that they are healthier than before, they feel a greater degree than other workers that they master their work and looking forward more to go to work than others. This is reflected in the attitudes of managers and workers: As many as eight out of ten believe that those over 60 have at least as good work performance as those under 60 years.
Østerud points out that it is not as startling:
- Those who stand in the job after 60 years, do so because they are motivated, thrive and have an in-demand skills. But there are more than those who are still able to work and enjoyed it.

Will step aside
One reason why people go before retirement, is probably the attitude of letting younger drop to when a company must downsize. The proportion who think that the elderly should be terminated before the younger, has increased from 23 percent in 2014 to 29 percent this year.
- One in three workers over age 60 say they are willing to go to escape the young forward, even if they really want to work anymore. It builds on a notion that one can retire away unemployment. But there is a huge misunderstanding. Increased labor force participation among older is essential to ensure the welfare ahead.
Østerud want a confrontation with the attitudes of society.
- On average, considered people older when they are passed 58 years, and being older is often associated with something negative. Managers are more positive towards older the older they are themselves, women are slightly less negative than men and older workers is quite harsh on himself. FACTS ABOUT PENSION REFORM FROM 2011
- Makes it possible to work next to the pension without curtailment. Meanwhile, the pension is greatly reduced when it is taken out early.
