MANILA, July 19 — Over 60,000 private sector workers have been regularized since last year, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported on Wednesday.
Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod said a total of 63,721 individuals are regular employees in their respective companies.
"So far, as of July 19, mayroon nang 63,721 na mga workers ang naregular mula nung isang taon,” he added during the pre-SONA press conference in Manila.
Maglunsod reiterated that all businesses and establishments including fastfood chains, malls, etc., are covered by Department Order (DO) 174.
The order, which was approved in connection with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to stop contractualization, imposes a total ban on labor-only contracting and other forms of unlawful contractual arrangements.
On the other hand, janitorial and security services; services of seasonal and project-based orders are not covered by DO 174.
With this, Maglunsod urged employers to immediately implement once a compliance order has been issued to them. (Ferdinand G. Patinio with Diana Bando (OJT)/PNA)
