RIGA, Feb 7, BNS - New Indian Ambassador to Latvia Monika Kapil Mohta during her meeting with Latvian Foreign Ministry’s state secretary Andrejs Pildegovics voiced readiness to focus on transport and logistics, BNS learned from the Latvian Foreign Ministry.
On February 6, Pildegovics met with Kapil Mohta, who arrived on an accreditation visit.
Pildegovics noted that bilateral relations between Latvia and India are developing successfully and confirmed that Latvia is interested in promoting exchange of high-level visits. Referring to business cooperation, the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador agreed that there is an unexplored potential, notably in the field of transport and logistics. Ambassador Kapil Mohta noted that special attention will be paid to this sector in light of the plans of a Latvian-Indian joint venture to develop the transport and logistics infrastructure in the Riga Port. The State Secretary welcomed the interest of India's investors in Latvia.
Pildegovics had a positive opinion about the increasing interest of Indian students in the opportunities of receiving higher education in Latvia, and noted that the Latvian universities currently have approximately 750 students from India. The Ambassador said that Indian students appreciate the quality of education offered by the Latvian higher education institutions.
In the conclusion of their conversation, the State Secretary and the Ambassador discussed matters related to expanding the legal framework, cooperation in international organizations and recent developments in the Central Asian region.
Kapil Mohta will be the ninth Ambassador of India accredited in Latvia. The Ambassador resides in Stockholm, Sweden.
