Brazil's former first lady Marisa Letícia Lula da Silva, 66, was pronounced brain-dead today (Feb. 2). She had been in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Hospital Sírio-Libanês since January 24.
According to a medical report, a transcranial Doppler detected absence of cerebral blood flow in the patient. With the result, the hospital initiated the procedures for organ donation, with her family's authorization.
The former first lady, wife of ex-president Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, was hospitalized after a hemorrhagic stroke.
