Moscow, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, agreed on Saturday that the two countries will pursue progress in territorial and peace treaty talks.
Speaking at a joint press conference after their meeting in Moscow, Lavrov said it is clearly difficult for the two countries to narrow gaps.
Kishida told the press conference that he and Lavrov had serious and in-depth discussions to lead to a planned summit of the two countries' leaders in Japan later this month.
Lavrov said the two sides agreed to pursue progress though the issues are complicated.
Kishida said an important thing is that the two countries will overcome differences, resolve the issue of the ownership of four northwestern Pacific islands in a way that is acceptable to both sides and conclude a peace treaty.
