Earlier in the day, French authorities began the evacuation of about 1,500 underage migrants from the Calais camp. The teenagers had not been provided with the opportunity to choose their destination, but they could choose fellow travelers and roommates for their new homes. On October 24, French authorities started to dismantle the Calais camp, beginning with the relocation of migrants to other facilities across the country with some minors due to be sent to the United Kingdom.  In total, more than 5,500 former residents of the camp have taken refuge in special accommodation centers across France.
