For much of today, the major story in the world has been America firing cruise missiles at a Syrian air base.

President Donald Trump said the attack was in response to the Assad regime's alleged use of chemical weapons on its own citizens earlier in the week. The airstrikes have been endorsed by several other western governments, including the UK, France, Germany and Canada, as well as the European Council president Donald Tusk.

However, Russia says Trump's actions have damaged its relationship with the USA, and it will look to strengthen Syria's air defences in the near future.

Swedish police say at least three people have died, and several more are injured, after a stolen lorry smashed into a department store in the centre of Stockholm. Facts are still emerging as we write this, but Sweden's prime minister has claimed all signs indicated the incident was a terrorist attack.
