ORAN (Algeria) - Eight plays are competing in the Sultan bin Mohammed al-Qasimi award at the 9th Arab Touring Theatre Festival, to open Tuesday evening in the Algerian western cities of Oran and Mostaganem.
Dedicated to Algerian actor and director Azzedine Medjoubi, killed by terrorists in February 1995, the 9th edition will feature eight plays in the official competition and eight others off competition.
In the first section, Algeria will participate with "Thoulth El Khali" (No Man's Land), by Tounes Ait Ali, representing the Regional Theatre of El Eulma, province of Setif.
Produced in 2016, the play snatched recently six awards at the 9th International Theatre Festival in Jordan, including the Best Work Award, the Best Actress and the Best Script Award.
In the same section, Al Qalaa (The Citadel), by Ali Al Husseini (Kuwait), competes at the event as well as "Kharif" (Autumn), by Asmaa Houari, and "Koul chai an abi" (Everything about my Father), by El Dhaif Bouselham (Morocco), "Thawrat Don Quichotte" (The Revolt of Don Quichotte), by Walid Daghsani (Tunisia), "Al ors al wahchi" (The Wild Wedding), by Abdelkrim Al Jarrah (Jordan), "Ya rab" (Oh, my God), by Mustafa Settar Al Rikabi (Iraq), and "Al khalta al sihria li saada" (The Magic Potion of Happiness), by Chadi Dali (Egypt).
