26 injured in factory fire in Ashulia in Bangladesh


DHAKA, Nov 22, 2016 (BSS) - At least 26 workers were injured today in a devastating fire at a gas lighter factory in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital city.

"We have so far found 26 workers with burn injuries and sent them to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH)," officer-in-charge Mohsinul Kader of Ashulia Police Station told BSS. 

"Five more workers were sent to Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar" he added.

The fire took place in a tin-shed gas lighter factory adjacent to Jirabo Bus Stand under Ashulia Police Station around 4.24 pm, assistant director Masudur Rahman Akand of Fire Service and Civil Defence told BSS. 

Eight fire fighting engines rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control within two hours frantic effort at around 6.15 pm, Akand said. 

The reason and damages caused by the fire could not be known 
immediately, he added.
