MOSCOW, October 18 -. RIA Novosti French edition of Les Echos released material on "the threat of Russian expansionism" Europe. Looking back on the referendum in the Crimea, the author has tried to rethink the arguments presented by Russia as proof of the legitimacy of the will of the inhabitants of the peninsula.

Thus, according to the author version, Moscow justifies the legitimacy of the referendum in the Crimea, the terms of the Warsaw Pact, which allegedly states that "Russia gave Ukraine Crimea for 60 years, ie till 2015".
In fact, the transfer of the Crimean region of the RSFSR in the Ukrainian SSR was held on the basis of the USSR Supreme Soviet Presidium Decree of 19 February 1954, in which it was not prescribed any time limit. The Warsaw Pact was signed on 14 May 1955 and designed to create a military alliance of European socialist states. This document has no relation to the Crimea.
The publication also points out that the Warsaw Pact can not be considered a contract of international law, as it was not signed by sovereign republics - Ukraine at that time was part of the USSR. This does not really participate in the USSR signed the document, but to say that the agreement does not apply to international law, can not be, because it was signed by Independent States: Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany, Poland, Romania, the USSR and Czechoslovakia.

However, the author does not stop, and warns about the threat of "expansionism" Russia in the Caucasus. As an example, Les Echos leads "Dagestan, which Russia tried to annex by force in 1996". According to him, Dagestan "could once again become the target of claims of" Russia.
The Republic of Dagestan is part of Russia since 1813. Perhaps the author was referring to the first Chechen war - armed conflict between federal forces and armed groups of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria created in violation of Russian law. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that Chechnya has become part of the Russian Empire in June 1859, therefore, talk about "annexation" is impossible. At the same time, according to the author's material, Chechnya (or Dagestan?) Is now a sovereign state, which can become a victim of "Russian expansionism."
